Before You Move Abroad, Ask Yourself Three Questions

1 min read

Moving abroad can sound like the ultimate fresh start. A different country. A different pace. A different way of living. But changing your location does not automatically change your life.

Before packing your bags, there are three things worth considering.

Are you choosing the right place?

A beautiful vacation destination is not necessarily the right place to live. Consider the lifestyle, cost of living, healthcare, climate, culture, language, safety, and what everyday life will actually look like once the excitement wears off.

Are you moving for the right reasons?

There is a difference between moving toward a life you want and moving simply to get away from one you do not. A new country can offer a new environment, but some things will make the trip with you.

Are you financially prepared?

Affordable does not mean free. Consider housing, healthcare, transportation, visas, emergencies, trips home, and unexpected expenses. Financial security gives you the freedom to experience your new home without every decision becoming a financial crisis.

Moving abroad can be an incredible chapter. Just make sure you are choosing more than a destination.

Choose a place and a life that actually works for you.
